National Registry recertification: deadlines, hours and how to stay on track

National Registry EMT, AEMT and Paramedic certifications expire March 31; EMR expires September 30. See the NCCP hours by level and how to track them.

National Registry certification is how many states license EMS clinicians. Recertifying on time means finishing the right continuing education, entering it in your National Registry account, and submitting before your certification expires.

Key dates

  • EMT, AEMT and Paramedic certifications expire on March 31.
  • EMR certifications expire on September 30.
  • You must submit your application no later than midnight on the day your certification expires.
  • EMT, AEMT and Paramedic late applications can be submitted by April 30 with a $50 late fee, but all CE must be finished before March 31.
  • EMR late renewal with the reinstatement fee runs October 1 to October 31, with all CE finished before September 30.

NCCP continuing-education hours (2025 model)

The National Continued Competency Program splits your hours into national (50%), local (25%) and individual (25%) components.

Two ways to recertify

  1. Continuing education: enter your education in the online application. Your training officer approves it, and for AEMT and Paramedic, so does your medical director.
  2. Examination: recertify by passing the exam. If you do not pass, you must complete the education requirements before your expiration date.

Keep proof for audits

The National Registry runs random audits. Keep certificates and supporting documents for at least three years.

How Med-Cert Pro helps

  • Link your National Registry credential to the 2025 NCCP model and see recorded hours against each component.
  • Log every course with its certificate, hours, content area and date, so an audit takes minutes.
  • Get reminders well before March 31 (or September 30 for EMR).
  • Your whole professional wallet is $24.99 per year.

Med-Cert Pro tracks the hours you enter. It does not award, approve or submit CE, and it is not affiliated with the National Registry. Only education the National Registry accepts counts toward recertification.
