EMS clinicians answer to several authorities at once: the National Registry, a state EMS office, the AHA or another resuscitation provider, and their own agency. Each has different dates and proof requirements. Med-Cert Pro keeps them in one place and tells you what is due next.
National Registry hours by level
Under the National Registry's 2025 NCCP model, the continuing-education totals are:
| Level | National | Local | Individual | Total hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paramedic | 30 | 15 | 15 | 60 |
| AEMT | 25 | 12.5 | 12.5 | 50 |
| EMT | 20 | 10 | 10 | 40 |
| EMR | 8 | 4 | 4 | 16 |
EMT, AEMT and Paramedic certifications expire March 31, and EMR certifications expire September 30. See the National Registry recertification guide for deadlines and late rules.
State licenses are separate
National Registry certification and your state license are two different credentials. Some states require current National Registry certification to renew, and others offer their own routes. See state EMS renewal guides for the states we have reviewed and a link to every state EMS office.
For agencies
EMS agencies can give each employee a Med-Cert Pro seat, assign role templates (EMR, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, Critical Care Paramedic, Flight Medic, Community Paramedic) and see who is current, expiring or expired, without holding anyone's personal wallet. See agency plans.
How Med-Cert Pro helps
- Store the card or certificate once, with the expiration date read from the document by on-device scanning.
- See the credential move from Active to Expiring Soon, Critical and Expired, so nothing surprises you on shift.
- Get a reminder before the window closes, and mark a renewal In Progress while you finish it.
- Share a time-limited link or QR packet with an employer instead of emailing photos of your card.
- Your whole professional wallet is $24.99 per year, and agency-sponsored seats cost you nothing.
Professional credential information only. Do not upload patient records or PHI.
